Methanol's Evolution: From Chemical Feedstock to Sustainable Fuel

In a recent and significant development, SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, has further solidified its commitment to sustainability by launching a certified low-carbon methanol product. This product is a result of the company's innovative use of Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) technology, where by-product CO₂ from upstream processes is captured and used as a raw material to produce methanol. This method not only reduces reliance on conventional feedstocks but also significantly lowers the product's carbon footprint. SABIC's new methanol is being positioned not just for traditional chemical applications, but also as a sustainable marine fuel, offering a tangible pathway for the shipping industry to meet its decarbonization goals. This move by SABIC underscores the transformative potential of Methanol and the industry's commitment to creating a more sustainable future.
